Post Your Video / Re: Mower Traction Problem
« on: October 21, 2008, 12:15:24 am »
:eyebrow: Kinda looks like my ride on George's Mowchine, in his front yard! That's all I could do with it, with the slicks on, and dew on the grass.

Till he told me to take it out in the drive, rev it up, and dump the clutch!  :woo: :3gears:

Durability is not one of their known finer traits!

While some do run them, on mowers that aren't built to the hilt, and have fair luck with them, they simply aren't as tough as the Peerless transmissions and transaxles. Totally dependent upon how much horsepower and torque you're putting to them!!

i have bought two motors off ebay and the only thing wrog with them was they smoked     the starter and carb alone is worth the price i gave for them

He was questioning the seller "Melco". I've bought several engines off E-Bay, but the only ones I bought that stated they might be repairable, that were absolute junk were from Melco.

Driveline / Re: Chain Stretch ???
« on: October 17, 2008, 05:20:36 pm »
I use the cheap chain on mine. $10 for a 10' roll of #40. The first time I tested my mower the chain was perfect and when I did 5 or so laps in the yard it stretched so much I had to take a link out to make up for it.
Also I have only oiled my chain one time. But for some reason the chain ALLWAYS has a lot of  gear oil of it

Your transmission or transaxle vented? It may be blowing it out. George vents his so it does drip on the chain.

What size are your pullies?? Overdriving isn't a bad thing, but the faster you turn it, the more noise it's gonna make. George???

Internally there is a quite a bit of difference in the two! Aside from the case, which even there I'm not sure, there are very few interchangeable parts in the two. The gears can be made to work with modification, but the input and countershaft are quite a bit different. I'll have to see if I can find pictures, had two of them apart side by side to compare at one time, but there was so much difference in the two, that I never posted the pictures.

Yep! That would be the one!! While that one was probably the worst of the batch, I have 2 more in the scrap barrel that the blocks are just as bad. Don carried 3 to Bismarck, along with one he got from Lee over in Minnesota they managed to piece one together and wind up with a few spare parts. Still have two I haven't torn down, but both of them have the same familiar funny rattling noises in them when you shake them around at all.

I do probably have $900 worth of flywheels, electronics, carbs, intakes, heads, and shrouds though!!

Only good part about buying the pallet, was they pay freight when you buy eight!!

I'd give it more like an 80/20... bought a pallet of them + 2 single engines. Out of 10 we've managed to piece together 2. There's pictures on here somewhere of the first one. Never seen one blown up quite that bad. Most would appear to have been run low on oil, broken rods, typically go through the cylinder wall. If you're lucky you can salvage the cam, think I've managed to find 4 out of the 10. Most are hit hard enough to not only wreck the cam, but also crack the journal in the oil pan or the block, or both. Pretty much all of them have all sorts of funny rattling sounds in them when you take them out of the box.

In short... I bought SEVERAL that were boat anchors! A couple that were repairable.

These engines are all warranty work from Sears, non-repairable motors, that Melco wheels for them.

Totally dependent upon what organization you're running with, and what class.

Not sure if it helps, but if you Google the model number on that snow blower the RAGB came from, it comes up a 42" IH Cub Cadet, like this one...

He welds a stop on the spindle to prevent the caliper from turning Paul. I'll try and get a pciture of it later.

That's very possible, I saw the piston, and the box the engine came in at the G-Team Shop, and that was about it. We opened the box to make sure there was a motor in there, and closed it back up. Don't really recall what it was, but it was a BIG single cylinder, not a twin.
