I have a

Craftsman:
Peerless 600 series

Huffy Broad lawn:
Foote 3 speed gear box

Briggs Flathead / Ways of Raising Compression
« on: December 30, 2006, 12:42:06 am »
I know there's a few ways that you can raise compression on motors like changing heads, shaving heads, making a stroker, etc. I dont feel like doing a stroker but i was wonderine if shaving the 5hp head would be better than putting a 3.5hp head on my 5 hp briggs. Thanks for the help. John

Briggs Flathead / Cam Help
« on: December 29, 2006, 11:44:17 pm »
I'm soon going to start working on the huffy again and on of the major things i was planing on doing was getting for duration and lift on the cam. I was wondering on what is the best way to do this, i do have access to a welder, bench grinder files and much much more. I have a few questions like How much lift? How much duration should i do? My father is a welder and has been working with metal all of his life so he can help me. I also want to know what is the best way to measure? I was thinking about using a dial caliper but i need to know what you guys think. Is there also any pics that you guys have on cams that you made with more duration and lift? I don't know of this will help, but my motor is a 5 hp Briggs and Statton vertical that is in a 1967 huffy Broad Lawn. Any help is appreciated, thanks. John

Driveline / Double Groove Pulley Belt Setup
« on: December 22, 2006, 09:11:53 pm »
Has any one ever used a double groove pulley on there mower so it would run two belts, and two clutches. Heres the kind of pulley I'm talking about.............

I think it would be a crazy idea for racers and off road lawn mowers because it would probably not fry belts often, handle a lot of power and there would be a lot less slippage. Has any one ever tried this?
