Driveline / Re: What is the best

Before you race that 350 I hope you plan on getting it modified. The 350 with bushings can't be raced...they WILL burn up (tryed a stock one on my racer for ha-ha's...the bushings cooked after one 10 lapper!).

You need to replace the bushings with bearings, install oil seals and have a vent installed or it will push out oil when it heats up.

If I recall after talking with DON G (G-team) a couple years back...The 350 and 400 transmissions are made for 1,200 rpms input. Dons runs them with a 1:1 motor to tranny ratio and matches the output sprocket and axle gear to the engine. If I recall....I ran a 6" on the motor and tranny and a 18/42 tooth gears.

Where are you from?? Have you checked out your local racing scene yet?? Reason I ask is you may not need to spend much at all on a local level for an SP engine. Many racers in my neck of the woods are using basicly STOCK engines and put on one heck of a show! There are a couple modified engines as well, but you would be suprised what proper gearing and suspension set-up can do for a stock engine!!

If I were you, build a good solid foundation chassis. Get a stock engine and set it up for SP (remove gov.....ect) and go from there. You will be suprised how well it will work!

Racing Mower Builds / Re: 08' Prepared Chassis Build-IMOW
« on: October 09, 2008, 10:33:05 pm »
are you ever going to update this thread? not trying to be rude or prod, just wondering

It sorta turned into a dead project....but have been really thinking about it the past few days. I have a race ready SP (less engine)...and no "OFF SEASON" mower projects (other than an engine)...so This may become a revived IMOW project!

Haven't even been online here lateley due to work being soooooo busy (60+ hours weeks)....But have no fear...progress shall be made!

Driveline / Re: motor pulley

Most FACTORY engine drive pullys are a single piece dual sheave set-up.

Remove the center bolt and be sure to soak the shaft/pully a bit with some PB BLASTER and use a puller to remove. Just be carefull not to damage the threads on the end of the crank with your puller (I've just put a smaller bolt into the threads for the pullers center screw to rest against)

Chassis / Re: Front brakes
« on: September 28, 2008, 09:01:14 am »
On my BP I actually ran so much front bias I was able to apply the brakes goining into a turn to kick the rear out and sprint car thru the apex of the turn.

I will never race a mower without front brakes. It may be an initial costly investment..but being able to stop when someone checks up in front of you without hitting them..well...PRICELESS!

I also found by running a 12" rear rotor vs. the standard 7" cart style made a HUGE difference as well!!

Yes. IMOW can be built just as any other PREPARED class mower except for final drive ratio...ect.

Best part is, if/when you decide to move up in a class, you can still use that chassis!

I've tried the GREEN belts as well and have a real hard time with the clutch disengaging..I've run the RED ROTARTY and have yet to have issues!

Unfortunatly with this mower it has a real tight belt path, and was obviously not designed to be changed around.

Maybe the mower is trying to tell you something?????

Depends on Pulleys used...I first used 5/8 with my 350 tranny...now run .500" using a 700.

My initial build was with a 350..I love the tranny, but didn't like the far spread gear ratios. (changed over to a 700---closer ratios and new parts avail.) The 350/400 is great if you are a one or two track racer....but if you go on many differnt size tracks, you will be changing sprockets to work with your engines rpm band.

If I ever settled onto one particular track to race...I would consider going back to a 350/400.

I run 11 of them!! Each side of the wheel hub (4), each side of the bearings (4), One side of the brake rotor (1) , each side of the sprocket hub (2). Have yet to have any issues!
