because those trannies are geared down IMMENSILY so you would have to run a very tall gearing, and doing so might not hold up long..

Tecumseh Engines / Smoking out of breather?
« on: July 02, 2008, 11:58:25 pm »
I am finally fixing up my Massey-Ferguson 8 lawn tractor to make into a pulling tractor for the local pulls, but i ran into a strange problem.
It has a Tecumseh HL80 horizontal shaft engine. the strange thing is when i turn the engine over smoke pours out of the crankcase breather, and the smoke smells real bad like carbon or fireworks. but it happens when the engine dosen't even have a carb on it and with no gas in it! i checked the oil and its fine, and its clean oil. what could be causing it?

Here's pics of my setup, my return spring goes to a hole that is right below the throttle linkage on the frame. your's is the same frame as mine so it should have that hole too. Mine is set up as a hand throttle.

I've found that another program called VectorWorks is best for me. it is very simple and user friendly, and supports thousands of plugins and can do nearly everything that autocad can do and more. it is the program that i learned CAD on and what i use in school everyday.

whenever i try to change my avatar i get this message:

"Your attachment couldn't be saved. This might happen because it took too long to upload or the file is bigger than the server will allow.

Please consult your server administrator for more information."

but the file is only 89X72 pixels and is only 6.8KB!!   i also tried with another pic which is 89x89 and is only 2.37KB but still the same message!! what could be the problem??

Here's both pics: i'd like to have the one with the pic of the mower in the sunset, but if not, then the other one:

i found a nice 6 inch cast iron 2 peice pulley off of a deck that was on one of those walk behind landscaping mowers, the nice thing is it has 2 bolts that you tighten up to tighten the pully on the shaft, no set screws needed, works great for me on my craftsman, the only problem is i had to modify the clutch to clear the pulley.

iam not realy building to any rules this time more less make my own little track in are feld
but i want it to be safe it will have a live axle in the rear with disk brakes a corded kill
switch and moded steering i would build to a rule book but i do not know of a race tracks in
my area

you have the same exact situation as me, i have a dirt track in my back field, and i am building my mower to be safe, and there IS absolutely NO place around me where i can race, so your not the only one.

check your shift keys or even your detent ball for wear, that could be your problem.

if we're in luck, Dylan or Derek (i think i got your names right) might be able to record it like they do with a lot of the races up there.
