Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Precison cams website
« on: April 12, 2010, 04:57:47 pm »
Hi Guys,

I am looking for some information on the cams you guys talk about and have gone to the precision website to look at the options/specs. However i cant find any info for mower cams. Am i doing something wrong or is there only 5hp cams there?

It may be a dumb question but i had to ask.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / 28ci Cams
« on: January 21, 2010, 10:38:37 pm »
Hi Guys,

Because i live in New Zealand (at the top of the world) it is very difficult to get racing parts at an affordable cost. I am looking into getting a cam ground for my 28ci ohv. Now i know this is a bit of a black art and so wondered if anyone would be able to recomend a valve duration and lift to increase bottom end tourque and mid range. We spend very little time flat out on our tracks so max rpm is not such a problem.
Any comments would be much appreciatted.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Inlet manifold lenght
« on: January 10, 2009, 05:33:45 pm »
Hi guys,

Had a thought in the night like you do, Tourque is what you feel for acceleration and HP holds you there, so if you need more acceleration then in the automotive area you use a longer inlet manifold and for high speed you use a shorter one , so if you put a longer inlet manifold on you may sacrifise some top end HP but would get there quicker. Ha s anybody played around with this as i have noticed that the same CC rating engine has different HP ratings and different Inlet manifold lenghts. I need more Tourque to get out of the corners so was going to custom buils a new manifold however why reinvent the wheel id you guys have already tried this. Any input would be most appreciated.

Chassis / New Front end
« on: January 09, 2009, 05:45:49 pm »
Hi Guys,

Just thought I would pass on a picture of a front end that i have come up with which is easy to make and should work well . The reasoning behind this is that i am envolved in the education sector and have come up with a plan to get our local colleges to construct a mower racer to gain credits and introduce them to the fun side of motorsport. I would like some input on the front end from you so i can make it easier to make and work better.Have a look and make any comments you fell would help. I have used oiled plastic as the bush inside the hub and also used standard size material that is easily available.I hope to get the schools racing against each others and having fun. By the way of course they will have all the saftey parts fitted as well. .

Cheers for your input  8)

Kohler Engines / Camshaft choice
« on: December 27, 2008, 05:03:08 pm »
Hi, Guys,

I have just replaced my 12hp flathead with a 12.5 OHV kohler. I have gained a small amount of power straight up but am curious about doing somthing with the cam. Does any one have experience with a cv12.5 motor that could give me some advise as to the lift and duration that i should look at using. Also what timing do you use for these motors. Any help would be appreciated.

Kohler Engines / CV 12.5 valve height help
« on: November 23, 2008, 03:32:37 am »
Hi Guys,

I am currently rebuilding a kohler motor to try in my mower. I have cut the seats and valves which has changed the valve height to the point that i think its to high . When i try to install the rockers i have to compress the valve too much to get the push rod in. I have looked in the manual but cant seem to find a valve height. Can any  one help me with this?. By the way it has lash adjusters and not adjustable tappets.

Driveline / Input shaft speed
« on: October 17, 2008, 05:34:29 am »
Hi Guys ,

Just wondered what sort of input shaft speed you guys run. I did some rough calculations and ended up with about 10000 rpm. Does that sound what you guys get . I am running a spicer transaxle with a 3" pully on and a 6" of the jack shaft. The main pully of the engine is about 7" and lower jackshaft is about 5".
