Post your Pics! / New mower
« on: April 22, 2007, 09:04:01 pm »
I traded for this yesterday. I traded my old Montgomerey Ward Vari drive for it. I have some changes I want to do to it. The good thing is I have another Craftsman for parts! I spent all day taking apart the other Craftsman.

« on: April 14, 2007, 09:52:19 pm »
Ok I just picked up an old murray 18 HP twin 42" cut it was getting dark but the transaxle has pullies in a wierd spot they are not on the top but on the side. This mower is a beast it has 23 inch tires on the back. Any ideals what the transaxle might be?

Briggs Flathead / Rebuild kit
« on: December 19, 2006, 06:17:25 pm »
Where is the cheapest place to order a rebuild kit for 11HP and 12.5 HP stock Briggs & Stratton?  I have never rebuilt an engine but want to learn and the only way to do that is dive into one. If anyone knows where some good instructions for rebuilding one is that would be some great help also.

This is my latest mower I got. I took the pic after I cleaned it up. A little soap and water and wax will really change the looks.

Post your Pics! / Ariens 11/38
« on: December 07, 2006, 07:22:33 am »
I had just gotten another mower. This will be #7 I have gotten for free. It is an Ariens 11/38. I will post pics of it later today. Not sure if the tranny is race Worthy. I don't know what kind it is yet. But it has three gears and a hi / low shifter on it. I was thinking on using the front axle for my other racer since the rules where I will be racing states it has to be a lawnmower axle and not manufactured. I can widen it a few inches though. But I think this one will get me lower to the ground than the original.

Driveline / Peerless 800
« on: October 19, 2006, 08:59:54 pm »
I just picked up another rider today I want to build up to a racer. It has a peerless 800 series 5 speed. But it wont go into nuetral. The mower had been sitting for some time and it will roll one wheel goes foward while the other goes backward when you push it. Is it worth digging into? I am just starting my first build and need all the advice I can get. I am clueless but willing to learn.

Post your Pics! / New to forum
« on: September 23, 2006, 06:47:42 pm »
I am new to the forum and new to wanting to build a racer. I had just retired from the Navy. I was a welder/ Shipfitter in there and can build just about anything when it comes to metal. I have gotten 4 free lawn mowers so far from the local area need advice on which one would be a good race mower to build. I will post pics tomorrow when all the rain stops around here.  I have a Montgomerey Ward around 1990 that has a 12.5 b&s 7 speed thansaxle, A toro rear engine 11hp B&S , a Murray 14.5 B&S hydrostatic drive and am picking up an Older Murray 11hp tomorrow. I thought the Montgomerey ward would be a good one but have read that 7 speeds arent any good for racing. But stock its the fastes one I have.
