Driveline / Modifying a shifter
« on: December 24, 2008, 03:46:53 pm »
I have a Craftsman mower, with the 5sp transaxle and was wondering if there is a way to move the shifter around? Its OK were it is now but anyone have any suggests on a more comfortable place to put it in stead of reaching under my legs to shift.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Carb and electrical question
« on: May 01, 2008, 09:03:58 pm »
I have a 14hp single, on the bottom of the carb there is a seloniod and it has a electrical hook up. What is it? I am guessing its a shut off for the fuel because when its not hooked up gas can go though and flood REALLY bad, one time I took the intake off and about a pint or so of gas came out of the intake port. On the wiring diagrams it doesn't say how it is hooked up. I was thinking of just putting a shutoff in the gas line to take care of the problem?

And also with the wires from the alternator can I just run the wire right to the battery or do I have to go though the main key switch? On the wiring schematic there is a diode and then it goes to the key switch. (After looking it up it says they are basically a eclectic check valve?)  My question is do I need that or can I just run a wire directly to the battery?

Racing Mower Builds / Josh's S/S build
« on: March 26, 2008, 09:34:06 pm »
I finally got a mower  :woo: Its a Craftsman 14hp Briggs, with a 5sp Trans axle. Got it from a friend for $200 but it needs a complete rewire, his dog was chasing a mouse and ripped most of the wiring out. So I took it all out to bypass all the safety switches( I will be putting on the teather etc)

Right now I need some help with the wiring, the starter seloniod has you posts on it, the 2 for the main battery cables and one that I think goes to ground. There was one red coming off the first post that went some were in the rats nest to were ever and then the white one went some were. Question is what is the right way to wire it? Just take that red wire and hook it to the switch and the white to the ground? I found the wiring diagram from Sears but its to blurry to see anything.
Here are the numbers-

Driveline / What transaxle is this?
« on: December 27, 2007, 03:45:22 pm »
I have this Peerless trans axle and I cant find any numbers on it. Does anyone know anything about it? It came off of a John Deer SRX75, and its has F-N-R. The only numbers on there that I can find are the Paten number.

Driveline / Getting this setup to work
« on: November 09, 2007, 08:48:11 pm »
I have a 6hp Tec engine that I want to put in a race mower and I have a FNR Peerless tranny but I can't figure out to make them work. Since the engine is a horizontal and the tanny being setup for a vertical. I wanted to try and use the things I have becuase money is tight. So do you think there is anyway to make the two work together?

Thanks
