Not sure what the facebook comment meant... is all of the racing mower action happening there or what?

Not many of you will remember me. I hung out here for 5-6 years, raced mowers for 5 or so years then gave it up. I haven't been back on this site in a few years. What in the heck happened? There's nobody here. Sort of like a ghost town. Oh well, hope everyone is having and has had a good time racing since I was last here. See ya'll later.

Ok... So I'm going to "break my own rule" and publicly apologize. Not only to Rooster, but the forum as well. Sorry for accusing the wrong person.  So.... Sorry Rooster.

But let me set something straight. Before I continue, understand that this is MY opinion and as mentioned in a previously deleted post, this isn't MY forum nor MY rules. So yes, I am well-aware that forums have standards and as a user, we all agreed to that standard and are expected to abide by them.

So now that I've gotten that disclaimer out of the way, I do feel( again, my opinion) that this forum is sometimes overly censored. I have seen what I feel are many posts that were locked, deleted, or otherwise done away with for sometimes what amounts to topics going into the weeds. Now- I can understand if someone comes on here and says they want to turn the family BBQ grill into a racer with a big V8 engine in the back that yeah, that's totally inappropriate. I have no problem with that being moderated. But as far as when posts aren't totally on topic, or even mention something that's been mentioned before, etc etc? Its a forum. Forums are in many ways an extension of how people interact. Maybe its because I'm a Southerner and we LOVE to tell stories.

But as you can tell, this is a pet peeve of mine. Just let it be. Let people post whatever as long as its within spec of being safe and "clean" per the code of conduct in regards to being family friendly and whatnot. Forums are sort of organic and if the posts change from one thing to another or go on for pages anbd pages of nonsense, then good. It builds community.

Before I close, I appreciate the moderators for what they do and no- I wouldn't want their job either because its probably a big pain to have to constantly monitor this site and make sure nothing dumb gets mentioned. That and having to deal with the same questions over and over and over again. So for that I am grateful. I understand that yes- I am being a total hypocrite for making this criticism. This is a sport that outwardly seems ridiculous yet also has the very real potential to be dangerous if someone doesn't know what they're doing or respects aspects of safety. So I can understand why care has to be taken to ensure newcomers and others are made to understand the importance of having respect for what amounts to lawn chairs with engines going around a dirt track at 40MPH.

Anyway, like I said, these are MY opinions. So I've aired them and that's that.

Coffee Shop / Re: shipping

I am not sure if they would ship something like a mower, but I collect old 1930's-40's radios and have sometimes had some of those huge old console/floor models shipped to me via Greyhound or Amtrack. You just go to whatever station, drop it off, and the receiver then picks it up at their closest station.

Coffee Shop / Re: Engine selection for a Mod-X/CP build?
« on: February 05, 2013, 03:03:32 pm »
My bias is for the Briggs 14.5 OHV engines. And here's why:

1:You can get a TON of power out of these things. Don't be fooled by the factory spec HP rating as you're going to build it out anyway.

2: They are dirt-cheap and plentiful. They stuck these engines on everything. So you can usually find one for next to nothing

3: There are many, many aftermarket performance parts for these. For example, you can get billet rods, cranks, and flywheels for these. That's what I did and as a result the engine is basically made out of billet- as far as the important stuff goes. 3 years on and no breakdowns or failures. That saves you time and money.

4: Yeah- " Everyone runs them" but the reason again is because they're common, parts are plentiful, and that means less time for you to spend looking for parts, fixing, and so on. Sometimes having the more common engine simply makes it easier.

As far as I can see, nobody is using any foul language, so no harm done.

My Grandfather was on a Naval destroyer in the pacific in WWII, and my father was an infantryman in Vietnam. I have a great uncle who was in the Navy in Korea, and the Air Force in Vietnam...I am certain there are no words I have not heard.

Tell me about it. I used to volunteer on a retired aircraft carrier and most of the guys on it were 70-80 year old WW2 an Korean war vets. Boy when they got together, it was like one long conversation of curse words.

I am to use family language, or get a vacation... so forget what I just said.

Guess my "family" isn't like the status quo then because cursing was a rather colorful part of general discussion in our household/family, and somehow we all survived fine and dandy. But I digress. I too got sick about 2 months ago. Not real sick, but I was hacking my lungs out. I went and got a flu shot and there was a huge line. I havent been sick since then so maybe it worked.

Wonder if it makes the same sounds airplane toilets make. I hate using those. They sound like the world is coming to and end.

That's ridiculous. I mean- these things aren't even that good to start with. If people love them that much, just make your own or something. Can't be all that hard.

I always thought Twinkies were sorta disgusting anyway. That said- these things last forever, so if you love them, buy a ton and bury them in the back yard. 30 years from now they'll still be good!

They haven't been a totally American company form a long time. Daimler ( Mercedes) was their previous owner and had been since 1998.
