Made a new exhaust for my sled, went out to test it out over the past weekend and I totally toasted my belt, you can hear it slipping like crazy. Had fun anyway terrorizing my wife while she taped it.

Yeah, I ticked her off when I did a drive by!....Two 1" Pipes from the V twin into a small collector to one 1-7/8" pipe,  about 20" long. I originally had it a bit too short, by adding a few more inches, it gave it bit more bottom end grunt.....kept an eye on the plugs too, seems to burn a little better.

Joey
You should of started your own thread.  That is a cool clip and it is buried in this one.  Yep that sound is great boys!  That is a REAL BP there.  I've never seen it in person, but that ain't no stock motor there!  Fianlly something worth downloading!  Thanks Joey!!!!!!

Thanks Paul, That is a baseball field across the street from me at an elementary school. This particular field is around back of the school, so I sneak over and ride for a few minutes and dissapear!...
......The engine has had quite a bit of help. It is an older Kawasaki FH601V 19HP. Jayson Mikula built it back in 2002.
Heavy duty valve springs, a nasty cam, head work....
He is currently working on a new engine for me as we speak, He has aluminum flywheels available for them too....
I am really happy with this Kawasaki, they are not as common as Briggs and Tecumseh, but well worth checking into.
Jayson builds them very reasonably priced too.....

........please keep in mind that in this clip, my belt is toasted........

Very impressive!!!

Have you ever run a Briggs or Indian? Just wondering how the Kawi's dependiility, powerband and life are compaired to them.

Tom, great question. I goofed around with a stock briggs v-twin and there was no comparison. The Kaw ate for lunch... BUT, That was an unfair analysis too, being the briggs was stock. Very soon, I hope to get together with a few local guys so we can compare engines.....I hope trade sleds for a few laps....that should be real fun and a great learning experience.  As far as dependability, this engine has had a hard life and still kicks booty. I run it close to 6800 RPM and have not lost anything (yet).....I still have a big nasty 20lb flywheel in it, The new engine will have a well needed, aluminum flywheel. I have always had good luck with Kawasaki & Honda, The drawback is there are less accessories than Briggs/Tecumseh. They really take a lot of abuse and have excellent longevity. I am building a CP right now and will probably drop a 20hp OHV Honda in. .....Will be interesting to have a "Shootout"...looking forward to it. I would like to check out an Indian too.  I hear good things.....

Wow I just came across this and that is one nice sounding mower. Ive seen you race on TV many of times and you can never really get the full effect of how fast you guys are going or how your mowers sounds because your all in one great big pack. But this little video definitely put things into perspective you were givin er.

.....Well, I wish that were the case,(and thank you for the kind words) but, I have not participated in a National Race yet...(it will be a few this year)....still considered a "Rookie" in this sport (however, I have 30 years of hardcore competitive racing under my belt- BMX, Motocross, ATV, Dirt Track..and some Aircraft Racing) . I started racing mid year in 06 here in my local chapter and did rather well..... I have done quite a bit of local media , Public TV and a Radio stuff to promote this sport. My part time business is heavily involved with media......needless to say, Every chance I get, I start promoting Lawn Mower Racing.......with a huge emphisis on the safety precautions we take.....

Thanks Allen!....Manny's a great guy with a wealth of knowledge, and he will give you the shirt off his back. I actually learned most stuff here on Heymow, and especially- Super George............ George Herrin's  build was a "God send"....the pictures answered a million questions.....don't have anyone local to talk dirt with. So, there was a lot of trial and error. The local fellow chapter guys here are of tremendous help, but for the most part, they are on the northern side of the state, so I don't get that much of a chance to catch up with them as much as I would Like to. I will be at Clements MD July 13,14 for sure(local to me).....thinking about about Sparta...and Delaware Ohio. ..............

I work with a bunch of Mechanical and Electrical Engineers...you can see their effect on my new CP Build.....I think that frame could probably take the punishment of a V-8 engine.

ahhhh...new engine just arrived!....will spend the weekend  getting it installed.......
...as well as the wife's IMOW........somewhere I'll find the time to sleep.

SLEEP , YOU DON"T NEED NO STINKING SLEEP !!!!!!!!!!!!! It's mower season .
Great to hear I will be in MI for sure and Ohio at the end of the year , Have you thought abought the Ill. Double header ???

Your mower is great , specially if it's your first build .
Mow better is great , LOOK at all the people that we get to meet and talk to before we meet on the track . GOOD LUCK THIS YEAR AND TELL MANNY THE LAWNMONKEY SAID HI !!!!

You got it brother!....I will see Manny next week and probably talk to him this weekend.....

Considering the double header in Illionois, I really want to do the Sparta Mi weekend and catch up with Jim and Jayson Mikula, and also the Delware Ohio weekend.... of course, Manny will be at all of them.

......now...talk about sleep?.........was up till 2am this morning, and back out at 8am......putting a new engine in the BP......Had Jayson Mikula build a nasty Kawasaki V Twin for me....Finally got it started a few minutes ago.......I think I may be scared of it allready..(yep.....age is catching up with me).....this thing is nuts.....Oh well....IMOW...here I come......Hope ta see ya soon!

YOUR NOT SCARED , just getting smart !!!!!
Jason and Jim are good guys also , my wife and I stayed at Jason's house last year after the race and pig roast on Sat. . Sparta is my home town so I go there every year or have for the last few .

Now abought the IMOW thing , your joking right ???????????
Title: Re: Joey's exhaust
Post by: Flipper on March 17, 2007, 08:46:12 pm
YES!!!...but, the IMOW is actually for the wife....I made a prepared frame with the idea of starting her in IMOW....I originally was building a CP....but with the new rules.....I can swap the engine out to race another class while using the same chassis.........She has shown quite a bit of interest, even after I let her ride my BP.( I thought it would scare the  :censored: out of her.......but NO!!!!).......
Anyway, we pick up the frame from Jackie Andrews'(SP#33) Body shop the 25th
..Hope to have that running soon after......(this is the CP build I have posted here)

Anyway, I hope them both running soon...did the BP engine swap last night/today....had to adjust the timing, so, I needed to pull the flywheel to reset it. The darn flywheel puller damaged the crank threads that holds the flywheel on....been searching the state for a metric tap M12 x 1.25. None to be found......as I sit here with my head in my hands.......I need some beer....
.....Pretty sure we are going to do Sparta.....

that exhaust sounds GOOD  and on kaw motors where can you find performance parts or are the kind of motors that you port and polish and send the cam out and bore it bigger valves and so on

Most of the stuff has to be modified. There is not alot of bolt on performace stuff(yet) for the Kaw's. This older engine has a pretty nasty cam, heads-ported-polished, carb work and an 2 piece exhaust header that I made. The new engine(not shown ..yet) is just plain stupid. Heads Polished-Ported-Decked, Special Ground Cam, HD Valve Springs, as well as some other internal work,  Alum Flywheel, HD Valve Springs, Carb & Intake Work, HD Starter...Blah Blah....Jayson Mikula @ Four Seasons is your guy.....he is factory direct Kawasaki.

This is (http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r244/joeynahas839/th_STX38RACER03-21-072EXHAUST3.jpg) (http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r244/joeynahas839/STX38RACER03-21-072EXHAUST3.jpg)
the exhaust header I made that I am currently using.

Better start mowing some lawns to make some cash!!!

I have a good running 14HP twin cylinder engine I'll sell you for $50.00 + Shipping (should be pricey...It must be close to 100lbs without a shipping box!)

Look in the For Sale section....it's there!

No sure don't. Sorry. Thanks for asking. ...I had some trouble finding an IMOW engine for myself . (Briggs 13.5hp flat head. 28R707)...I finally, Found a few at Small engine Warehouse. Real decent pricing. At first,I got one real cheap from a buddy but, it had a lower crank seal oil leak, cracked it open to fix it and found the whole lower sump(block) was toasted where that crank sat. Something must have got in the area that the lower crank sits in and scored the heck out of it enough to actually melt the seal.(obviously from not changing the oil)....the lower sump(block) is around $90.00 and the crank is $160.00....that's more than half of what SEW is asking($450.00).........no brainer.....will just keep it for parts....everything else on it pristine.
