while you are modifying the fenders, remember you are now allowed to sink the seat into it to get the 13" seat height from the ground to the bottom of the seat.  If you are going by the uslmra rules ofcourse are.

You will also have to drill the carb for a fuel line fitting.

   How do you plan to "drill" the lightening holes in these gears?  These gears come in two types -- heat-treated steel or powdered metal -- and both types are hard.  Do you have access to special bits that will penetrate these metals, or maybe a laser cutter?  You'll need to be careful not to affect the heat-treating of the gears, especially the teeth and the bores.

I'm not trying to trade this mower in, it was my great grandpa's first mower and I finally got it running after 30 years of just sitting around. So it's got some sentimental value. What part of Michigan are y'all from? I live in Rockford... That probably wasn't wise of me, now roosters assassins know where to look!

And if its got Sentimental value...add that to the reasons not to cut it up.....
I already knew where ya were, i have connections...little known fact that when Roosters crow, they are actually passing classified information about the locations of Antique Garden Tractor Molesters... which is why Garden Tractor Pullers don't eat eggs!!

If I was going to drill them, I'd chamfer the holes both for oil drag and stress relief.

The biggest thing that TRACTOR has going against it for racing is the transaxle is very low geared and has a lot of rotating mass. You say you've read on here....have you seen anyone building out if A TRACTOR????
No, we use MOWERS !!!

Now I understand building what you have. But son what you have is not a viable racing mowchine.

Your mechanics are right, you can make that thing fast. But you'll never make it handle, you'll never make it quick, you'll never make it turn.

The worst part is, you can easily find a better chassis!!

I used a cheetah bead seating tool and it worked on all of my other tire applications thank you for the input
