Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Intek Rod Bolt Torque
« on: June 05, 2017, 06:25:48 pm »
Hello All --

Been forever getting this Intek Twin together. To the point where I am losing stuff: Parts. Notes.

For example, rod bolt torque for Ron's (RIP) Intek Rods.

Does anyone that uses his rods (With bearing inserts, BTW) have the torque spec, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Jeff

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Intek V-Twin cooling questions.
« on: March 23, 2016, 03:59:26 pm »
OK gang! I am going to race BP this year. It's time for more speed. Something I noticed on this Intek V-Twin engine is the ARC flywheel sits way down below the top cover. I am not liking the lack of air flow over the cylinders, and do not feel any air moving down below the heads/cylinders. Parts of the ducting will not fit any more because of the air filter adapter. So before I over-complicate things:

1. Do you add any weatherstripping or seals of any kind between the fan/wheel and top cover?
2. Do you cut down the top cover like with the singles?
3. Do you add tin or seals of some kind around the carb/filter adapter/air filter?
4. Do you just leave it alone, the air filter and adapter are enough for shrouding?

Any input is appreciated.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / AVS Single/VTwin Dipstick Removal
« on: February 19, 2016, 12:28:23 pm »
Question: I want to remove the dipsticks from the BP and from the FXS. It would appear both are the same size hole, but neither are threaded. Being fairly close to 7/8", I can use a 1" tap to thread the hole. Before I do that, is anyone aware of a plug that is already being used? I would prefer aluminum, second would be plastic. I want to make sure I get the right tap to match the plug thread. I would prefer not to use NPT if possible.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / B & S Hi-Torque Starter Modification

Anyone know of a place that can rewind the starter armature? I am looking to upgrade from the standard .7 kW to a 1.2 kW.

Yes, I know it pushes horribly. 4th time ever on track, gimme a bit o' grace...new to this kind of chassis, pretty soft surface too. Needs a bit longer exhaust to improve torque as well.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / B&S Single Head Studs
« on: September 18, 2015, 10:09:57 am »
Does anyone here manufacture a head stud kit for Briggs single OHV? I am looking for studs that have fine thread for the nut end. ARP nor any other major fastener manufacturer makes stud kits, nor studs with long enough of the fine thread side to work with.

Tires / Bead Lock Ring -- How Tight is Tight?
« on: April 07, 2015, 09:48:11 am »
New bead lock wheel arrived, but I have no idea what the torque value is for the lock ring bolts? I'm just finding the "Quarter-turn past tight" references when searching....This is for an 8" wheel.

Thanks for the help!

Chassis / Twisting Steering Arms
« on: March 10, 2015, 09:04:21 pm »
Question: My G/P chassis is an AYP design.  Is it legal to cut into the frame to allow "pass-through" for the steering link between spindles?  I have tried using spacers to mount said link above and below the frame, but the leverage of the longer bolts/spacers will twist the steering arms over time. I have tried welding stuff to the arms for reinforcement, and...no, just no. I simply need to get the link closer to the spindle arms to stop this nonsense.

This modification will not affect wheelbase, nor give any performance advantage, just parts durability.

Thanks in advance!

Coffee Shop / Digatron EGT Sensor
« on: November 14, 2014, 04:51:16 pm »
Hey Folks~

A person that I send stuff to for machining gave me this old Digatron DT-32, which is awesome. BUT it is the older version with the leads coming out of the unit.  Would any of you happen to know the part number for the EGT, CHT and tach leads for this device?

I already have a tach and CHT lead for it, but if for any reason I need to replace them, having a part number handy would be great.  Yes I tried contacting Digatron, but they're closed, so I wanted to look around on eBay and such.

Thanks,
~Jeff

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / EC Roller Rocker Installation: 33 vs. 31
« on: June 20, 2014, 09:38:12 pm »
Building an engine for someone, and I am attempting to install EC's fantabulous roller rockers on a 33 head, and I noticed that there is a .200" difference in height between the 33 head and the 31 heads' rocker stud bosses, leaving a large gap between the bottom of the roller rocker mount to the stud boss on the 33 head. The 31 head accepts the mount perfectly, with the bottom of the mount reaching the floor and touching the stud bosses. You can mic the floor of the valve area between the two heads and that is where the difference is. Total head height, etc are all the same otherwise.

So has anyone else run into this problem? I didn't call in to see if there are part number differences between the old OHV and the newer AVS, but EC only shows one number.  The mount I received looks nothing like the one in the picture on EC's site, and indeed looks much sturdier with its extra reinforcements. Naturally, I received the parts on a Friday so I can't call in for tech information.

So, can I safely remove .200 from the bottom of this rocker mount? This certainly would be the easiest thing to do...

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / EC PCV Valve threads
« on: May 16, 2014, 12:00:43 am »
Hey gang,  I just picked up EC's PCV valve kit, and I want to double check before I start drilling holes -- Is the thread 3/4-10, or 18mm-2.0?

For a reference, it threads into the sump dipstick tube hole if you take the seal out.
