Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Intek Rod Bolt Torque
« on: June 05, 2017, 06:25:48 pm »
Hello All --

Been forever getting this Intek Twin together. To the point where I am losing stuff: Parts. Notes.

For example, rod bolt torque for Ron's (RIP) Intek Rods.

Does anyone that uses his rods (With bearing inserts, BTW) have the torque spec, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Jeff

Best thing to do is use Hagar pads your worries will be over

I have gone as far as three seasons before replacing Hegar pads. Be sure to get the rotors too. MUCH harder alloy than EC rotors, they're also vented.

Paul, get the standard bearings with the low-tension seals, clean and oil them after every race day and you'll be hard pressed to bust 'em. Ceramics don't tolerate dirt AT ALL, my experience.

Same here Kokamo, I've recently had by horizons broadened with Kawi Twin engines. I think if someone worked these it would raise the bar considerably.

Be careful with 49 cranks some of the newer one's have a larger mag journal

Must be 2015 or newer? Is the 810 Vanny crank this way?

Pretty much all parts interchange. The 49 crank can be different because it has a 1.125" PTO. HOWEVER that particular crank can be used in any Intek twin, and vice versa.

I would recommend 49 heads for your 40, the valve size is actually quite close to what it likes. Modified or unmodified, they are a great improvement. They're all over eBay all the time, choose wisely.

I would also recommend a NEW sump from briggs, the oil pump is improved, but it has the 1/2" cam journal.

That was a great night of racing. Good job, Ed.

Out of curiosity, how much RPM did you spin that thing? I remember when you and Tony Smith came flying by at the beginning of the race it was like thunder. Love it.

OK MY BAD, STOCK IS 3.4 AND 3.5 IS 31ci. 3.6 IS 33ci. I HAVE YET TO HEAR OF A 3.6 BORE OPPY. I WAS TOLD IT WON'T GO THAT FAR, BUT I DON'T KNOW IF THE BIG BLOCK WILL GO THAT FAR.
JEFF YOU HAVE THAT BIG BLOCK I HAD, WILL IT GO THAT FAR?

Yes, the big block will. However, let's observe the SP engines to see what happens when it's not done with PRECISION.

3.57 = 31, 3.71 = 33.

OK. So, the regions are divided up something like this map, for example. So let's say I want to be the "Yellow Zone regional Points Champion" I need to attend all the venues in that region for the year. True?

"3 9/16 bore 31 cube pistons are the same size but appear to be dished"

You are looking at an early 31 piston that was used with the .050" shorter rod for the single cylinder engines. Ignore those pistons. Use P/N 796172 for standard bore with ARC Rods.
