i think your backfiring may be caused by running a tad rich but i'm not 100%

Awsome! yeah our mower is red, so i guess its raceable   there is an engine with it, its a 12 horse briggs flathead, but with a broken connecting rod  :(  so i'll eiether find a rod or a different engine so i guess i'll go with what i had planned for my suburban 12 and add a gas pedal, bolt the front end solid, change the gearing, remove the governor when i get an engine, add a tach, make a header exhaust, get a K&N Filter, and make the rearend live

Hey,
Picked up a Homelite RMX with rear engine. Would this be a good racer? it has a 5 speed with reverse peerless (model number 797, Serial number 6058 5890) is this a good tranny? does it happen to be the 700 series that you can do the race prepping thing to. its seperate from the rear axle.  http://www.fasttractors.com/rules.html are our rules

my buddy has a craftsman he races its fast but he won't lock the diff need less to say he rolled it today he didn't get hurt thank god  but to answer your ? craftsman has a nice frame to work with it's sturdy

dynamark

if i interpreted this right your buddy runs a craftsman with the stock transmission and rear diff(not locked), this race is just a summer fair thing so when not racing i'll probably be bombing around on it. I just wanted a mower that would stand up good in a race with minimal modification but it seems thats a stretch lol so i guess i'll mabye use my suburban 12 to haul around my racing mower when i get one

I was gonna put an ad in the local buy/sell paper to pick up parts or whole/ running or not mowers what are your guys's opinion on this? do you think when i go look over a potential mower they'll end up saying "yeah you can have it for $$$"? or how could i word it so that they won't think i'll be making a profit off them which i won't be

from that other topic i now know what the transmission should look like i know anything can come outta anything but which brands put them in from the factory? so the kind i need to find is the one that has the pulley on the bottom and a output with sprocket on the side? What kind of mowers do you guys run?

I almost got the engine running but the trigger is shot   time to buy and then see if there's any carb problems i probably won't be using this tractor for racing unless i can't find a murray or MTD (or others?)

So let me get this straight Foote transmissions come out of MTD's  and peerless Transmissions come out of Murrays?
what about the 6 speed system on craftsmans with the belt shift thing

350 or 700 peerless transmisson...(less rolling mass and rear weight)...
what kind of mower would one of these come out of?
and i thought that transaxles arent a good choice because they can't take the rpm's of racing or somting like that.

the mower is completely stock
it has a 8 speed forward and reverse, high and low it has a belt drive directly to the transmission/differential unit

ok thanks!
from what kind of mower do i find a 350 or 700 peerless transmission? the kohler is a horizontal shaft engine so would that be a problem? So i'll find some other front tires with bearings in them. we're racing on dirt so any kind of tread pattern preferred? I'm only 15 so go easy on me :D but i'm ready to work to win

Hey guys,
in june were gonna be having a lawnmower race, we will be abiding by these rules http://www.fasttractors.com/rules.html i was wondering what i should do to my mower, its a 1970 suburban 12, is this a good choice for a build-up? I believe its engine is a 12 horse kohler.  My plan was to add a gas pedal, bolt the front end solid, change the gearing, mabye remove the governor, add a tach, make a header exhaust, use a car airfilter, lower the seat, and mabye weld the rear differential solid. Are these good choices? and is there anything else i can/should do?

Thanks for the help!
