Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Vanguard single. Carb question.
« on: October 03, 2008, 08:07:34 pm »
this don't have anything to do with racing, but it is somthing I've been wondering. I've got two of the 26CI Vanguard singles, They both run fine one is on a mower I use sometimes, The question I have is are the carbs badly built on these models?  I've had issues with mine that I've got. I just wanted to see if anyone else has had carb problems from these models.

Driveline / Transaxle question.
« on: September 22, 2008, 08:23:25 pm »
Right now because gas is high money is tight, Well I can still go ahead and do some work on my Transaxle, But before I started I wanted to ask a question, Since I"m going to be inside anyway to lock it up, Alright I've got a old busted Vari-Drive transaxle with the holes already drilled in the axle to hold the wheels on, Well I was wondering if I can take those axles and put them in a differant transaxle? It would save time on trying to drill out some other axle being as it would already be done. Has anyone else tried this or is it one of those it would take more time then its worth?

Briggs Flathead / 28CI Will not run without choke.
« on: September 12, 2008, 09:59:57 pm »
I've got a motor I've worked on a few times now and it still has the same thing happening, Its a 28ci flathead 12hp, When I got it the coil was gone and the carb too, So I bolted it down and checked compression which was 95LBS so then I put a good coil on it and a carb gasket and good carb, I cranked it and choked it it started and runs well once I let the choke off it dies, I thought maybe it was a bad carb so to rule that out I took a carb off of a running mower I use every week still the same thing, Then I changed the intake gasket thinking it might be sucking in air and put the same carb back on it and no matter what it will not run without the choke on fully. Does anyone have any idea as to what would cause this?

Hello everyone,
I bought the mower and i really like it and i am thinking about making it a MOWchine, It is a Longlife mower it has a 12HP 28CID briggs motor which i had running lastnight, But i have a question do you guys think it would make a good MOWchine??? I have never heard of this kind of mower, But when i seen it i knew i had to have it, I have pictures, Here they are.

On a side note, These are the mowers i talked about getting and said one was kinda small and might make a good MOWchine, The last pictures is the a craftsman i bought to i like the green rims  and it is the mower i said was the same body style as the one Tomfox used to build his racing mower.

Briggs Flathead / Welded to the crank.
« on: October 11, 2007, 11:57:18 pm »
I have a 12HP 28CID i/c briggs motor, I hope to use this on my MOWchine or my dads, But i have a problem someone mounted this on a snapper, Well it has the flat plate on the bottom of it for the drive on the snapper, The problem is they welded it to the crankshaft how could i get this off easily??  I thought about grinding the welds off of it myself but don't want to take the chance on messing up the crank, Do you think i should go ahead and try it or do you know of a better way to remove it??

Chassis / Direct steer
« on: September 18, 2007, 09:03:55 am »
I have been doing some thinking and reading, I have about six rear engine mowers can i use things like the tie rods and steering Coulomb for my direct steering on my front engine MOWchine or do i need bigger rods then that, The reason i ask is because i have all of those mowers and the steering is in very good shape and i hate to see them go to waste, Also if i can use them what else would i maybe use off of a stock front end, I checked the whole chassis board and did not find a answer, Any help would be great.

Driveline / Good for racing???
« on: September 13, 2007, 03:17:04 pm »
I was wanting to know if this would make a good racing transaxle i have seen you guys talk about 3 speeds and them being H pattern shifters, Here is what i have a peerless transaxle out of a old lawn mower it is a 3 speed+rev H pattern shifter here are the the model numbers 649 and under these numbers are 4043-0213 these are on the right side of the transaxle right near the brakes, I am so glad i now have a camera it helps so much!!

Sorry about the top photo it was clear when i took it, I'll try to fix it and post it again.

Briggs Flathead / 10 HP Briggs
« on: September 03, 2007, 08:55:27 pm »
Before i go any further with this i have a mower it has the stock 4 speed with a 8 or 9 inch pulley on it i use this to mount my motors that i rebuild so i can run them under load and test them to see how they do this is not a BYB and i use it in the yard not the road, Well i told everyone about a 10hp i built with 11hp parts and it run real good, Well today i mounted it on the test mower and it run really good until i started to give it some gas anywhere past half throttle it smokes BAD and i cut it off and checked the oil the dipstick said it was right on the money and i took off the head it did not have oil in the cylinder, The only thing i can think of is when i give it gas past half throttle it is sucking oil up into the cylinder, Does anyone think this might be happening to my motor????

Tires / question about rims
« on: August 14, 2007, 07:17:05 am »
First of all i tryed to search for this but the search is not working to good, I seen where you can use 3 bolt rims well i have some 3 bolt rims about 6 or 8 from a four wheeler laying around they are smaller then normal four wheeler rims can i use those or would they be illegal???

P.S. I know this is not a four wheeler forum but i thought i would ask because this is not really about the four wheeler just some rims from one.

« on: August 09, 2007, 07:49:01 am »
What i have been reading says that parts from a horizontal shaft engine with fit in the vertical shaft engines, The reason i need to know is i have a 10HP horizontal and a 10HP vertical and need to make them a good engine this is going to my dads MOWchine when it is done, Yes i got him into it now. :woot: :woohoo:

P.S. I searched and kinda found what i needed but i wanted to be 100% sure.

Briggs Flathead / 10 HP briggs will not start
« on: August 02, 2007, 10:50:28 pm »
This is for my racing mower i just got done replacing the crank in my 10HP engine it was striped out i had one from a 11HP i put it in and i cleaned the piston and valves, Well anyway before it had 45 pounds of compression after i got done and tryed to start it well it would not fire and i checked compression then and it was only 30 pounds, Now i have not went to school for small engine repair YET but this was something i was doing to learn to build a good racing mower engine the engine was give to me so i thought i would learn to work of them a little more while i fixed this one, so what do you guys think i have done??

P.S. i lined up the timing marks and it gets fire
