Post your Pics! / Re: FINALLY finished!!
« on: April 10, 2009, 09:40:07 pm »
To be honest when I started this I was just wanting to build a "Go Fast" mower but once I got into it I really got hooked and growing up around racing just made it worse!!  I had to build it right and SAFE, I just got hooked!

You know what, I've grown up around racing to and really I was just going to build a "Go Fast" mower too. Then the guys around here cracked down on me and set me right! Now I've raced and I'm getting close to finished with my Craftsman and I've loved every minute of it!

Thats a great looking mower too! :rocknana:

I believe it was some of the old briggs twins that have them.

please don't do this for mowing. If you are running those rpms, something will come loose and kill somebody

I totally agree with you.

But if your racing then the best upgrade you can have is a billet Flywheel.

Those blocks are not very strong, the rod pushing on the crankshaft puts downward strain on the block and combustion pressure trying to lift the head off-the block is the weak link and it breaks, for jr dragsters they make a stronger block [blockzilla]

Thanks for letting me know...I've got a buddy who races karts with the Pros...I shoudl have just asked him. lol

Cool pictures! What happened to Hitch's engine? It looks like the rod is all there...Crank failure maybe?

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Re: Methanol
« on: December 25, 2008, 05:36:58 pm »
I am not going to claim I know anything about Methanol or any other type of alcohol in a normal engine much less a race engine.
But the little bit I have been around karts that run methanol, there seems to be a lot of maintanence to keep them up. I have noticed that the oil tends to have a lot of moisture in it, Or should I say a lot a water, the oil looks like chocolate milk. That can't be good on bearings and such.

So in my eyes it looks like a lot more money than its worth, more money for the fuel, more money for the oil changes that have to be done a lot more frequent, more money for the carbs and maintanence to the carbs, and more money for the parts that are going to go bad inside the motor and carb from not performing the reqiured maintanence.

To me it is a lot more hassle.

That is very ture..A good friend of mine runs in the NKRA something like that...He is in with the Pros....He says running on Alcohol costs a lot and the maintanence is an everyday thing...But he says the power you get is worth it...To him anyway.

I don't why that bothers everyone. To me its much easier to read... Caps meaning hollering is all hog wash to me.

George, It don't bother me either, I'm like you it is easier to read...I think that most of the time people don't like it is because its like your yelling at someone.. I don't agree with that and the other issue I have found from it is people saying its not good grammer. Well once again, I'm not perfect so it don't bother me at all.

To bad those 26CI Vanguards are not as prized as a Vanguard twin... If they was I'd be in luck, I've got two of the 26CI I might be getting a third soon.

If you go back to the 12hp crank you should be fine.

One thing that did not help is while scrap was high everbody who could get anything metal was hauling it off. I'd say a TON of good mower parts went that way and that didn't help the hard to find parts any.

Well I'd heard this was coming back when I tryed to order some parts for a 6HP side shaft the guy said they where having a hard time getting parts from them and he said he had been hearing that they where getting close to closing. That was back in march or april. I like Briggs better but I still hate that they are closing down.  :(
