Post by: mowerracer313 on November 03, 2005, 08:34:38 pm
Im building a motor for my ap and was wondering what carb everyone was runnin
I was thinkin a 10 or 12 hp carb would be better than the stock 8

Most I have spoke with have had better luck with the older 12hp flojet carbs, the 12 hp walbro once built is too much for the 8hp. best to build the original 8hp walbro if you want to use the walbro.

Wow thats a tuffy to explain, I seal off the original air intake open the end maqke a filter adapter/venturi open the original venturi, the original jet should be sufficient, and much more little things, Lots of time in making the flow jet into a killer carb.

I'm by no means an authority of information about Briggs engines but I've tried alot of different things and I think its always best to experiment with different ideas and sometimes what wouldn't work for one person might work for someone else.  Two engines can have identical model, type and code numbers but I can guarantee that no two engines will have identical performance.  I think I would try using a flo-jet from one of Briggs larger push mower engines preferably 6.5 or a 7.....The older flo-jets that you are speaking of are really tough to get the idle and the gas needle set just right...and they are easy to come unset from vibration of the engine.  I'm not saying I'm right and anybody else is wrong.  Thats just my opinion.

Ive seen remote adjusters on some fx mowchines
Would something like that keep the carb settings from changing from vibration???
Just a thought  or could a person put a different spring on the adjusters??
