Ok, thanks. Just for grins, I am going to take it apart in a day or so, and i am going to see if my 700 gears will work on the shaft, if they do I will replace those with new 3rd gear 700's. I will also see if the shaft interchanges as well. It is a 4 speed as well. I got is just to have a spare, I thought it was a 700 ont the rig, but when I got it out today, it was a 500-501.

Does anyone know anything about a "ranger" mower. It is old is all I know, green, and has a 30 inch cut.

If you have the speed down the straights, then you need to work on your chassis setup some, and then you won't have to worry about starting behind anyone. If you think you are fast now, wait til you get all that kohler power to the ground. Ask George, he'll tell ya that. Something about not good on one corner and you are still out of place on the next.  :P
