Non-Affiliated Races / Why do you race at outlaw tracks?
« on: July 23, 2008, 12:58:16 am »
We are working at starting a club in our area. We have looked at both US and ARMA, as well as starting out as an Outaw track. I know why we don't have any in our area already, but would like a broader sampling of opinions and advice.
We have used the advice of heymow psots extensively in building our mowchines, so only makes sense get your opinions on organization.

Please feel free to be honest complete and genuine, but refrain from "bashing" any organization or it's members.
If you simply don't like the Organizations rule's or bylaws, specifics would be appreciated.

Thanks for the input.

Chassis / Steering Speed
« on: June 22, 2008, 04:29:27 pm »
Making the switch to direct steering.
I know this is going to make steering quicker, which is fast enough already.
Any body have suggestions how to keep a little speed out of the steering?

Briggs Flathead / opposed twin pumping fuel.
« on: June 01, 2008, 03:42:03 am »
Ok, here is a new one on me its on my grass cutter, which was planned o be next years racer.
Son was cutting grass and ran over a board, into the deck, killed the engine.
When he tried to restart it he cranked it and craked, with the choke closed, obviously flooding it.
So i just parked it for the day.
When I went to try it today it wouldn't turn over. Charge battery and still same.
I finally pulled cover and turned fly wheel by hand and it dumped quite a bit of fuel out of muffler.
Pulled plugs, left one very wet, and turned over fine, all seems smoothe, but lots of fuel out of left cylinder.
Plugs back in, after checking spark, still a no go. After a few cranks, cylinder full of fuel again.
Any body know whats up?

Briggs Flathead / Exhaust pipe size
« on: May 30, 2008, 02:24:54 am »
I know there has been discussion on what size pipe to run before, but nobody has asked...can it be too big?
I am making a 2 into one or an opposed, and I can not find any 1" tubing any where, and all the 1-1/4 I find is 1/8 wall.
I do have some 1-3/8 thin wall that I could make a coupler for, then split, bend and seam into single at end.
Everyone says bigger is better, but this is getting pretty extreme.

Chassis / "L" Spindle set-up
« on: May 18, 2008, 09:48:45 pm »
Where I race they require "L" Spindles.
LOL I am not going to call them "J" Spindles, that would make the tires sideways!

Any way,
Any body have any good tips on building with these?
We are allowed to modify the axle and lower the front end, so my plan is to basically chop off about 6-8" of axle and widen the center, then recess up into chassis.
How is having the axle center line that far below the spindle center line going to effect the geometry?
Will it exaggerate the geometry?

Some of the frontends I have seen, they "laid" the axle back, as well as up, adding drastically to the cam ber and KPI.

Any thoughts on this would be great as the chop saw is warming up!

Driveline / Breaking Shift Keys
« on: May 18, 2008, 02:07:15 am »
I am running an 800 Peerless.
Ran at first race tonight and broke 2 ses of keys.
Has anybody found a "heavier" Set of keys?
I have read mixed reviews on these transaxles, bu there has got to be a way to keep them together for at least a weekend!
I am however running behind a 40 cube OT....too much torque?
