Lee no one is racing on a regular basis, but we would like too.  Maybe we could lure some of you guys out here too.
The promoter at Redwood Speedway may be interestd in starting something on a limited basis.    The race stock cars there now every Sunday night.  I believe the season is over now.

I have not yet budgeted any money to a motor.  I like the run until it blows plan I already have some free engines.   I'll spend my money on chassis first then motor.   I picked up an MTD chassis , that I plan on building.

I know I may be opening a can of worms here, but what is the engine of choice to build on a budget.  What should I be looking for   Right now I have a 11hp briggs flathead and a Briggs 15.5 Intek. I also have a 9.5 hp kohler  Please give me your opinion.

OK thanks for the replies.  Ok so a person could use a front engine chassis and move the engine back to the middle of the chassis?

Relatively new to mower racing.  I have been viewing heymow forum for sometime now. I am finally going to pull the trigger and build a racing mower.   I have been garden tractor pulling for several years, but I am looking for something else to do now.  My wife is behind this as she thinks it will  be more fun to watch than gardentractor pulling.   A local racetrack promoter is looking to add lawn mower racing to his venue.    I'm looking at the rules and pictures of other mowers trying to decide what to build.  I have raced go karts and stock cars in the past, so I know just enough to be dangerous. hahaha.  So far tis forum has been very helpful.   Thanks
I would also like to mention that I'm located in west central Minnesota, so if anyone is interested in racing out here let me know.   Hopefully we can get regular racces in Redwood Falls Minnesota.

Thanks for your two cents.   I see photos of mid engine tractor style mowers, what class is that.   I have rea the USLMRA rules over many times and just don't know which way to go on a build.
Guess I'll part out the Sabre and use the money for the mtd build.   Anyone need any Sabre parts?

Ok so i'm reading the rules of the sportsman class.  It seems like an inexpensive class to get started in.   Or maybe the A/P class, but the mid engine chassis are nearly nonexisten around here, in SW Minnesota. Any thoughts?

I just scored a free Sabre 1542HS , with a good 15 hp briggs , but a bad hydro transaxle.   Good chassis to build?    Also got a free mtd chassis, which I have yet to see but it too has a bad transaxle, but I'm going to tear that out and use a peerless 700 as well.   Maybe use the sabre engine in the MTD chassis ,  any thoughts and or sugestions?

Chassis / Re: John Deere STX 30 Build or not to build?

Ok i just scored two free mowers a Sabre 1542HS good motor bad hydro, and an MTD bad tranny that has been sitting, so motor may be bad two.  Is the sabre the same basic design as the old JD STX, looks to be.  I have not yet see the MTD.   I plan on picking up oth this weekend and will pick and choose best chassis and motor.  I can't wait to get started.
