Thats what i was wondering if the crank would still be as strong...but it sounds like it would never be able to take the stress of a race mower

Hi wuzzy1111, shorter stroke may be able to turn more RPM's but it would produce lower torque numbers, and everybody knows that torque is what pulls our butts out of the corners.

And in the case of the opposed, leaves our butts in the corner

id like to know the weak links too....maybe input gear??

Actually now that i think about it, mybe because of the 20:1 reduction between the shaft driven by the input gears maybe the two gears that that spin with that shaft..being cast explode because of the speed....kinda like a flywheel....maybe i have it backwords though :D

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Re: Oil Pan Gasket
« on: November 08, 2008, 05:00:59 pm »
yamabond, suzukibond, hondabond and even catarpillar has a bond as such. these are designed for machined surfaces without a gasket. kohler puts most of their engines together without gaskets but briggs requires gaskets, put them together without them and something wont spin due to the gap of the little gasket.
For those that didnt know, if it had a gasket then put a gasket in it. Some tolerances are so tight that the absense of a gasket will cause big problems. Likewise, putting (making) a gasket in a place where it didnt come with it will be just as bad.

yes that is why briggs makes i think 3 different width gaskets...so that you can set crankshaft endplay
