USLMRA Races / Re: Another rule question. Engine mounting
« on: January 31, 2012, 03:13:04 pm »
The way I look at it, I would think that the rule possibly came into play to keep a stock appearance. I could be wrong, but that's how I see it. In the A/P class where the mid-mount engines are seen the most, the tendency would be to want to move the engine forward to get the weight on the front end. I could see where that would take away from the stock appearance. So keeping them going through the hole in the plate would make sense (i guess). But when we are putting axles on top of frames, lowering front ends, changing the "orientation" of the front ends (camber, caster), lowering the seats, modifying these things to no end...why is lowering the engine plate such a big deal?? I am not mad in any way, I am just voicing my opinion.

I agree. Also that is true of the Huffy style mowers. The engine really doesn't have a particular spot. However, I did not put mine lower than the bottom of the frame.

Thanks. So basically I need to make certain the needle fits inside the tube..if it doesn't, remove the small inner jet,or I assume I can drill out the down tube carefully?

George. on those high idle adjustment screws, is there anything that needs to be done to the carb, or just put in, adjust, and go?

Chassis / Re: should i move fender

If you spin it by rotating the axles it should be harder than if you spin the pulley. Also, it will vary depending on which gear it's in when you spin it. In my experience, if the notches were not aligned properly, the case wouldn't even come together without leaving a small gap (really small). Usually it will just come together really nice and you can just tell it went together correctly. One thing I have learned is you shouldn't have to use alot of force to get moving parts to move. Check, double check and check again. We have all missed the obvious.

I actually had one, but sold the "parts" mower it was on. I can prob get you one though. If you aren't in a huge hurry. I know a guy that has the same mower on his property. Don't think he would need it. I'll let you know. Nice job on that mower.

Nice. I have the same one. The seat can't go any lower, it's fine the way it is. Curious if you have room with the way that engine is positioned, to have the steering go straight down through the original location. I had to put my 8hp engine with the head sticking out the left side in order to use the original steering location

I wouldn't pay for that one...most people are just trying to unload something like that. It's very cool though. Nice front fenders!

I like the track length. It keeps things entertaining. A few more mowers and you would see some battles...
