Hello ladies and gents, I was wondering how far a 35/38ci Vanguard could be bored. Now my original thought was get one resleeved and run intek pistons but could I go as far as a 49ci intek piston?

A 38 vanguard is the same bore as a 40 intek @ 2.97, depending on rod length is going to determine if you need to cut the piston down, but from experience I?ve seen you can bore out roughly 160 thou before to come through the sleeve, so keep that in mind and sleeving might not leave a lot of room for head bolts to bump up to the kohler/ Briggs 44 3.13+ pistons , other may know more, this is just what I?ve observed

Okay, thank you for your insight. I haven't actually had my hands on a 35/38 block to have a look but i have *heard* of people running 3.150" however I have never seen it done.

Depending on how straight the bore and cast block is, 3.120 is an outer limit. If you have issues at 3.150, you may have to resleeve.
I would rather have a 2.99 piston to clean up the block, and be able to hone out to fix and issue, that to resleeve.
Just a thought.

That's a fair idea and a lot better in the long run. I was thinking of doing a destroked build and wanted to make back some of the ci so I was wondering how far people have gone.
