I have found them in rear engine riders.  But I don't have a list of brands.

I do have a source for NEW 700-039's They are a 4 speed, steel gears, bearings on the output shaft, 4 key shift shaft.
Currently working on pricing but should be under $300.  When I get pricing figured out I will post it on here.

probably the most frequent use of a 700 is on gear drive walk behind mowers.  These are all different brands, but i know toro and exmark run 700s on theirs.  These are on bigger walkbehinds, from 32 inches and up.

As far as just a 700-039, there are these places at under 300 as well.

EC: http://www.eccarburetors.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=7_46&products_id=1131

There are these as well, got the link from a local mower repair man:

700-039 @ 249.00 from precoparts.com

J.Thomas has them at $247 + $10 shipping as well.

Do they come locked out for 8:1?  I didn't see it in their description.  If so, thats a sweet deal!

8:1 depends on your complete drivetrain, not just trans. you have to get that on your own, with pulleys and sprockets

No they are race prepped per George's thread on raceprepping a 700. Like Amcchevy1 said getting 8:1 is more then just the transmission.

There is a great excel spreadsheet that I use all the time to work out gear ratios and set the speed of my mower.. it is somewhere on this site...

You can pm me if you can't find a copy of it.. I can e-mail you a copy of mine...

Sorry, I worded my question wrong.  In most of his builds when he is talking about trans he speaks of blocking out everything above 3rd ( for an example ) to get it in a highest gear as close to 8:1 as possible before bringing in the drive line settings.  Maybe it wasn't George who said it, but in my head thats who I noted for saying it.  Then again, now that I am looking for it to link I can't find it...... maybe it was all a figment of my vivid imagination.
