How to set valve lash

Hi, i need to know the procedure to set the valve last on my 5.5 tecumseh OHV. I broke a retainer and am in the process of putting my head back together also what should my valve lash be on average. Thanks.

tdc 1/4" past, .004

Thanks, but is there a way to set it.
Like if i put it at TDC 1/4" past and its not .004 what should i do to fix this after?

put it to 1/4 past TDC and then set it to .004

I'm asking how to set it, like what is the process to set your valve lash to .004.

Its best you take it to someone that knows if you are that lost and I don't mean that in a bad way...

if tecumseh is like briggs, you adjust the rocker arm until you get the .004 and then tighten the posi-loc, and lock it down.

That will give you a start - it's for a briggs twin but the concept should be the same.

Thats a different way of doing it. Is it still a good way cause I really liked the Johny  Cash  theme music.
