08' Prepared Chassis Build-IMOW
« on: March 07, 2008, 09:22:24 pm »
Here we go again!!!

Just started the build of a USLMRA PREPARED CLASS mower. Not sure exactly what class this will be for but an IMOW is really in my mind!!

So..here we go!

1976 DYNAMARK

Got it stripped down in just an hour (the wife didn't even know it came into the garage! :)  )

Bottom of the "COOKIE SHEET" frame

Top of the frame

Upper chassis/console

With hood and fenders on

More to follow tomorrow!!!

threads a bit dead, but i have this same chassis, i plan to use it for AP. So far it seems like a solid one, plenty of room for a transmission, etc, and not too heavy

A little on the SLOW side getting this together...been concentrating on getting things in order for our (MOWRAUDERS) build clinic this weekend.

I actually welded some rails on the bottom side this evening and plan on getting the steering support done for the build clinic.

Tacked in some stiffening rails and made a quick steering support---something to show at build clinic yesterday---

Here you can see the rails just tacked into place

Steering shaft  support....Just tacked

...with shaft slipped thru (need to get some lock collars on there still)

...view from behind...Just tacked

...view from other side....Just tacked

..view with console in place.

This tractor was originally equipped with rubber mount retaining the engine to the pan. As you can see...the holes for mounting the engine are quite large. I'm going to cut a piece of steel to fit inside the engines "ROUND" depression in the pan..weld it in place and have proper size mounting holes.

very nice and clean, ihave several questions is that 3/4 tube and 3/4by3/4 angle?did you get your bevel or angle from the console you will be using and match with your angle of brace or is that just something common you use on all builds.also are your colum retainers bearings or just retainers.and where did you buy?great pics very clear, cant wait to see more hope you dont mind me copying some of your work.

Yes. I used .750" tubing for the main frame of the steering. I ran out of .750" and if you notice the reward bracing is 1.00" sqaure tubing (all I had on my shelf).    And yes....750" angle was also used.

did you get your bevel or angle from the console you will be using and match with your angle of brace or is that just something common you use on all builds.

The steering shaft angle matches exactly that of the factory shaft location and angle. The factory steering stopped at the pan and continued into a gearbox steering set-up....I for one feel they are very dangerous to race with and just elininate them from the build all together. I hole was made in the pan for the shaft to exit out to the bottom side for the pitman arm installation(still have to do).

also are your colum retainers bearings or just retainers.and where did you buy?

The top mount is a HEIM/rod end to support the upper shaft. It will have locking collars installed on each side to prevent the shaft from pulling up as well as pushing down.

The lower mount was a 3" piece of tubing with FLANGED bearings placed on the top and bottom. Locking collars will also be installed on the top and bottom side of this mount.

The steering shaft I had laying around from another project from days gone by...It is not your standard 5/8" shaft that most use...it is .750" diameter. (so are the bearings and heim).

Bearings and lock collars were purchsed at a local TRACTOR SUPPLY store. Hiem I had...but can be ordered thru many RACING sites such as SPEEDWAYMOTORS.COM and SUMMITRACING.com...and Numerous others!

Was planning on some more work on it this evening but the weather was so beautiful when I got home from work...YARD WORK took priority (not my priority....the wifes!)!

Have a shed to do repair work on...and paint....
Have a race trailer that I need to also do some work on...
Need to refinish some hardwood floors in the house.....

The wifes list goes on!!

Just not enough hours in the day!!!
