Carb Problems
Post by HotRodLawnTractor on Oct 7, 2005, 1:44am

George, you could probably teach me a thing or two so here goes. I have a 14Hp opposed twin in my mower, stock except for removed governor and gas pedal obviously. My problem is that, while the engine runs nice and smooth at constant RPMs no problem, when I wing open the throttle I get a bad bog, and it will backfire and shut off when I do that cold. I realize that the carburetors were never designed to operate in the way that we are using them, but what, if anything, can I do to clear up that bog and make the throttle response snappy. I'm talking about with no load on the engine at all. After it gets good and warm the bogging isn't as bad but it is still noticeable. Would drilling a hole in the throttle blade make any difference in that? I know that's an old trick on holleys for improving transition from idle to main circuit. Thanks for any help.
