yellow plastic plug in transaxle

on my peerless 900 4speed transaxle can that be used to check and refill fluid in it

I dont think so, i think its the cap for the fuse.
When its on the mower, the fuse is connected to make sure that the mower can only start in neutral

It can be used.  Just has to be in neutral so there is a hole there.  Look in there and shift it and you will see what I mean.

I've cut a slit in them to help vent any pressure .It seems to keep the oil from leaking out as much

While it is used to keep it from starting in neutral it isn't a FUSE. It is however a push button ground fault type safety switch that its ised for.
