Favorite Race
Daltonleach11:
Hey guys! After digging through old threads and trying to get a feel for this place, I couldn't help but notice how many people seemed to know one another in those older threads, even if only on here, and the feeling of community I get while reading them. I thought I'd start a light hearted discussion we can just connect with. So, I want to know if any of you have a favorite, or especially memorable race/ race-day, and if so why?!

Hopefully we can get some of that back. Just takes a handful of people to get things rolling again. A lot of us did know each other from this forum long before we met in person at a race somewhere. If we weren't building a mower or racing one we were on here.

Have yet to race lawnmower, however did quite a bit of WKA Kart racing on Dirt ( Back before having kids). My favorite race was and always will be, ANY Race I was able to make it to.
Sure, it was sweet when you had a race night that was "magical", the chassis was so dialed-in, it was as if on rails. Your motor was running strong, you hit your gearing just right, and you simply could do no wrong.
Even on a "Off" night where you "Just weren't fast enough" to win, was still good. Why? Because you still got to see your racing buddies, you had the opportunity figure out what you needed to be better next race night. You were humbled because you were forced to realize you had to find that "Little bit More".
So above all, it was memorable simply because you were there!
I think Mr George Herrin's signature line sums it up best of all,
"I'm going to race every race like its my last one"
Life itself is precious, and fleeting, so if you are lucky enough to get some racing in,
one would be wise to consider themselves fortunate.

Amen! I started out with karts on dirt a hundred years ago with the old honda G200 in the early to mid 80's, probably showing my age lol lots of fun!

Oh come on now, you ain't that old ! Not to far behind you, it was early 90's for us.
Myself and my buddy ran Flathead 5hp Briggs (stock, wink wink) Bearing/Bearing Coolbore Motors.
I kid you not, we rung the stew out of those little motors! We would just keep re-ringing them and run them till next oversize piston fit the bore, get us some .010 oversize and go again. Our motto was, run it absolutely just as hard as possible or pop a cap up it's butt.
Dang, what I would give to be able to go back and do that all over again !!! Would not change one single thing!
I have feeling the mower racing will be the same, except lot more spendy to pop a cap on one of these motors !!!
Win, lose or draw don't really matter once the dust settles. It is the interactions with the folks that dig this stuff just as much as yourself.
That my friend IS the real trophy!
Regards, Rick Richards
