Does anyone run #35 chain in the front and back on a horizontal engine with a jack shaft? Just wondering

Schiveley,

Using #35 chain wouldn't be a good idea for two reasons:
1.  The links do not have individual rollers on the link pins, thereby creating more friction than the 40- and 50-series chains; and
2.  It is too small a chain for the loads produced during racing.

If you want to pioneer a racer using #35 chain and let us know how it works, we could add that information to the archives.

Respectfully,

35 chain works just fine with a single.

I ran it for years with great success. And several others have as well.

Buy high quality chain.

If I'm not mistaken George used to run a #35 from the engine back. Very much like karts. I had a lot of power and it held up.

More people run 35 chain than any other chain on the national circuit.   Some guys run it on their twins but they change it often.  Running a jack shaft helps with the load by splitting up the change in ratio.

I ran 35 on my old sidewinder fx and never once broke a chain.   And it was one of the faster mowers in the nation.    And I beat the crap out of it.

Best part of good 35 chain is that there is no master link to come apart.   Buy the tool and make your own custom length chain.
