42 oppy build governor gear questions

Hey all, first time building up a 42 oppy. It may be a dumb question but it’s my first time building one of these and I have a decent amount of money into it for it to go boom prematurely. I have the arc rods and precision 212 grind cam. When reassembling do I need to keep the plastic governor gear in place or am I safe to remove that along with its little bracket that’s bolted to the oil pan? If it’s safe to remove it do I need to do anything else to the motor internally or is it just take it off and bolt the pan back on ? Thanks guys

I’m not familiar with opposes twins.   But every other Briggs uses that plastic gear as the oil slinger.   Pull the Governor parts off of the plastic gear and reinstall 

If removing the Governor you need a billet flywheel.

Thank you for the reply now that I’m looking again the gear I was referring is in fact the oil slinger. Will not lie does concern me having a plastic oil slinger supplying oil to the engine would of thought they’d make something like that out of metal

Plastic won’t fly apart like a metal one would.  I haven’t ever had one fail.  I’ve had several singles that ran over 8k RPM
