tvt691 won't rev
« on: May 13, 2016, 11:57:44 pm »
I've got a stock tvt691. Put arc flywheel and Briggs coils on it. Bought ohv 170 carburetors and put blue emulsion tubes and brown main jets. Now the problem is when I start it full choke and wot it revs great as long as it doesn't go back to idle. It idles great as well but as soon as I give it throttle it pops and tries to die. It just won't rev up. I've sync the carbs the best I can. Checked for vacuum leaks with carb cleaner nothing. Am I missing something here?  Low side jets maybe?  Or transfer port?

Arc coil gap .040 minimum. And low side ciruit needs recalibrating.

I'll double check coil gap with a feeler gauge. Just used a match book. Redline got with me on low side. Bought a dandy flywheel from him.

I would also double check your carb to intake and intake to head gaskets. Sounds like a leak to me. I assume being stock, the intake has not been cut to accommodate head shaving.

I sprayed carb cleaner around all the gaskets while running and no change in rpm. Ya everything stock.

rechecked your timing with an actual light, not just going off the hub marks?

Haven't yet just set it at full negative for right now till I get carbs setup. But that's on my to-do list

All I can say is WOW!  When you get to that magic number on lowside what a difference. Gonna see how it does at the race today but I think I'm an indian guy now. Throttle response and riding wheelies WHAT A RUSH!  Thanks all you guys for the help.

Well, don't drive a built one. You may mess yourself.

Oh I bet a built one is awesome! Maybe some day.
My son got 2nd place on it tonight and everyone wanted to know what motor he had and if it's for sale. Definitely on the tecumseh bandwagon.

What ended up being the fix?  Did you keep changing the main jet till it fixed the issue?  My friend is having the exact same problem with his new mower.  Idles great but dies once he touches the throttle, but once he can get the RPMs up, it takes off.

I opened the low side jets. Use 17.5hp carbs blue emulsion tubes and brown main jets.

What are the low side jets. I'm the friend that leman was talking about.  I have zero idea what I'm doing and need a step by step guide. Did you drill the carb out itself. I have the same issue and have the blue emulsion tube and brown jet.
