Pushrod popping out
« on: May 11, 2014, 07:47:23 pm »
I have a tvt691 engine with heads shaved around .135, 410 cam, arc rods, flywheel, 32mm mikunis, ec double springs and retainers, I set my valve lash at .005in and when I rev the motor I lose my intake push rod, has anyone else had this problem, I think I need longer pushrods because when the valves all the way closed I can push the intake pushrods off the rockers, any help would be appreciated

Did you shorten the push rods? Stock length after a head slabbing won't work.

Also, enlarge both ends of slot in the rocker arm with a deburring tool in a die grinder. That should help keep the push rods in the pocket....until your try to get 7000rpm out of it. You are going to have bad joo-joo with that cam and stock valves and rockers.

Valves have been lightened, ace racing engines did the heads
So I've been playing around and what I did was lengthen the push rod and it hasn't fell out since

If you lengthened the pushrods, chances are you have some rocker geometry that Marky Mark and the funky bunch would be proud of.
In the singles, I could never get the stock rockers to last more than a race or 2 without breaking.

If your geometry is right, you should need a shorter pushrod. And lightening the stock valves won't hurt, but they will still be too heavy if want stuff to live at RPM. Tec valves weigh more than Big Al's lunch bucket if he's working a double shift.

Then why are the shorter ones falling out?
The rods are not bending, they are just literally falling out at high rpm

ARE THE VALVES FLOATING? YOU MAY TRY GEARING UP [RPM'S TO 6200 TO 6500] AND SEE IF THEY STAY IN PLACE.
