16.5 opposed twin
« on: May 10, 2013, 08:00:54 pm »
Ok guy's and girls, I picked up a couple riders to play around with. Looking to maybe try my luck at this racing adventure. So, I just started it today, smokes like crazy. Tell me what I should/need do to this thing. I use build my own Briggs 5 hp flatheads for years when I raced karts. I want to tackle this myself but have know clue on what clearances to run for anything this big (rod to crank, piston to wall, ring gap etc...) More thing likely this will need to be a modified racer to pull this old fat butt around   Any help would be greatly appreciated.

To get all the specifications, I would recommend purchasing the Briggs book, P/N 271172.  Available on Amazon.

Things like stroke, rod length etc. you will have to either search on here or do some math...

First off, sorry for the censored words in my post above. Won't happen again...

the book will give you the stock clearances, and since you have built air cooled engines for racing before, just go with the clearances you used on them.
If you quit when you're behind, you will never win.

Sometimes i use my own ideas, even if others think i'm wrong.
