 i was led to believe it was an 18hp ? can some one confirm this , cheers steve

I would say a 14 hp or a 16 hp max but I may be wrong.

You are correct Frank, 30's are 14/16.  18HP would be a 35ci

I have seen a few 30xxxx Vanguards also rated 18.5.... for whatever reason.

can the 14/16 hp engines be bored or re lined to accept 18hp pistons ?  also would the stroke vary  ?

Its a 1994 16hp engine and it should have aluminum rocker arms as well.

The 30ci block castings are really light around the cylinders compared to the 35-38ci blocks, I wouldn't recommend using them if you are looking for bigger cubic inch.
