Even more 600 question's
« on: January 15, 2007, 05:51:00 pm »
I herd it was a good idea to put a greese zirk on the input shaft casing. Bringing this up made me think about putting greese zirk's on the axle casing peices as well.

Will this help or no? dose gear oil flow inside there? Becuase when i took it off it was bone dry with nothing lubricating the bearing inside of them  Thank's John

If it's a stock 600 it's got grease in it.  If you're gonna race it I would put 80 or 90w gear oil in it.  You can mix it half and half with grease too if you want.  You'll also need to put new seals and needle bearings in it.

Yeah i know. I'm saying is that those axle casings dont get oil to them which means there is nothin in them with gear oil inside the transaxle. The plan is to put greese zirks in the axle casing's and the fill the tranny with gear oil

Every 600 I've seen has come stock with gear oil in it...

There are oil seals on each side of the main gear case to keep the oil in..

The outer axle housing has either a bushing or needle bearing and seal which is lubricated on installation...

If you can you should replace these outer axle housing units with the needle bearings/seal set....780091

Packing the needle bearings with a high pressure grease on installation will be sufficient...

Drilling and tapping in a zerk thru the bearing race will destroy it and drilling it "behind" the rac really won't get grease in there because the back(inner) side of the housing is open grease will just slide toward the center and not "into" th bearing...Clean and lube on installation....

The bushing on the input shaft can also be replaced with a needle bearing (780063) and seal and will be lubed by the gear oil from below so a zerk is not necessary there either...

With the needle bearing below, the upper ball bearing will be self lubed as well...
