12 HP OHV Tecumseh in A/P
« on: February 16, 2012, 09:22:33 pm »
Does anyone know if a 12hp Tecumseh OHV would be legal by the new A/P rules?  I believe it's legal under the cubic inch rule, but not sure if they were ever offered in a 10.5 HP or under rating.

And, if legal, can anyone verify if the parts (rods/flywheel) from a TVM 195/220 will swap over?

Looking at possibly building one of these for my next mower, thanks in advance.

Do you have any numbers off it?

The OHM, OHSK, OVM, OVXL120,130 & OHV 11-13 are all grouped together in the manual, and listed as having a displacement of 21.82ci (357.63cc).

As best I can tell, the number on the tins is 143896132.  Looks like there's another tag under the jug, but haven't pulled the engine yet to be able to see it.  This is definitely the small Tecumseh OHV, and by US rules, would be legal by C.I., but if the smallest HP was 11 it may not be legal.

The 143896132 is not listed in the Crafstman cross reference I have. The closest is 143.38412 which is an OVRM-905, a 143.396132 which is an OVXL-120, a 143.436132 which is a OHV-125.

The OVRM stands for Overhead Valve Rotary Mower,
The OVXL is Overhead Valve Vertical Medium Frame Extra Life
OHV is Overhead valve Vertical.

The OHV could be labeled anything from an 11-13hp with a 21.82ci.
The OVRM 's were from 5-10.5hp, but according to the chart in the manual, were only 10.49ci.
It only lists the OVXL as either an OVXL120, or OVXL130. Meaning they were probably rated at 12-13hp.

Maybe someone else has a better cross reference chart.....?

Thanks guys,
Looking like this engine is probably illegal by HP rules.  Trying to think outside the box a little bit for the new class rules.  Mark, I'm sure that number is right, the tins are rusty, so it's hard to distinguish between a 3 and an 8.
