I stumbled across a 16 HP 30 cube horizontal vanny today, it has a broke rod...it beat the piston up and left the crank a little to be desired but looks like itll polish up.  Not even a mark on the block though.  I've got a 18 HP 35 cub vertical vanny also...it's in running shape....any chance the cranks are the same or similar?

If the journal that fits in the block at the top and bottom are the same dimensions,
then you can swap them out. But the stroke is longer on the 35.

Also know that the vertical crank has a longer journal area for running in the deeper plain bearing vertivcal pan. It will still work in the roller bearing side cover for the horizontal, but the longer journal area of the vertical crank will stick out past the end of the horizontal case more so than the original horizontal crank.

Ok so it fits except part of the bearing surface will stick out of the case.  So it needs to be machined.. or can it be run as is as long as you can deal with a little extra crank hangin out?  Are the 30 & 35 cubes the same bore?

And they are both different bores.
