17 HP counterbalance
« on: November 12, 2011, 02:34:46 pm »
Are all 17 HPs suposed to have two counterbalance shafts?
I just opened one up that has only one.
What do I have?

Some had one balance shaft, some had 2. Only way to tell is take them apart, or remove the plugs at the rear of the block for the oil passages, and see how many are drilled.

What would be the difference. Is one better than the other?

There are both types out there running currently. The counterbalance on the crankshaft is different between the two. From what I have seen, there is no noticable performance difference between the two in our application.

I have run and heard to just take them out. Mine have held up well without them. No noticable gains in hp but its less weight to turn inside your motor
