Opposed twin on a super mod..
« on: July 17, 2011, 06:08:23 pm »
Has anyone else ever wondered about runnning a opposed on a super mod? If you were to build one for a super mod which class would it run run with the singles or twins? We run them with the ohv singles in US and AMRA.
Just something that has been rolling around in my head of air!

I would think they would have to run with the twins.  Supermod rules allow you to run different carbs.  The CP/MOD-X class requires the engine to run the stock carb.  That limits the twins, that is why the single OHV's are competitive with a much larger engine.

If I was building a twin for a super mod I'd run a v-twin.  There is no way a Opposed twin will run with a v-twin.  And if building for the single class, weight is critical.  Those oppys are heavy and I think a OHV single would run away from any oppy in a single supermod with the modifications that are allowed.

In the same class you mean.

I'm not sure they would "run" with a v-twin!

YES in Super MOD they run with the twins. I really doubt it would run competetively with a V-twin. Haven't seen one yet that would...

I think a rope would have to be involved.

Tie rope to rear bumper of v-twin mower.

Tie other end of rope to front of opposed twin mower.

That is the only way I know how to make a opposed twin run close to a V-twin.

I can get away with all this becasue I know Rooster is on the road and has no internet.  It is a long way home from Sparta, Mi for him!!!!!

Your going to give Rooster and Tommy a heart attack!!!

I actually have a good mower with a oppy on it.  18 hp oppy with a 32" deck.........mows awesome, but eats belts!   I picked up the front end once.........those things are heavy!!!

Ok y'all make a good point... I was just thinking outside the box.

I'm just giving the oppy guys a hard time.  Thinking outside the box is great and needed in this sport.  The carb is the biggest limit on the oppy.  Got a guy I race with that has a bad oppy and he has grafted a intek twin 2 bbl carb on it.  My SP (single flatty) still keeps up with it when he starts in front,  When I start in front, he can't pass me.

The oppy ran good this weekend. Dad took a first on Saturday with a mostly stock opposed. I took a 3rd today and I was knockin on the Sullivans back door the whole time.

They work great in the CP class because of the restrictions.  It also makes for some good discussion.  Single vs twin.

In a supermod I don't think they have a fit.  Vtwins are just to nasty and build a bunch of power, and that is the class they would have to run.

I also think their weight would hinder them if allowed to run with the singles.

Totally agree ABSOLUTELY NO way it would run with the v twins with the amount you can do. Heck Ryan Kerr is pushin 108hp. Not going to see that out of an opposed.

If I'm not mistaken Ryan is running methanol.  That makes a big difference.

Also the RPM range of the V-twin is a huge advantage.

I know they work well in cp because of the carbs are the weak link but even if it is built and has updated carb setup on it the weight would make them pretty close to equal to run with the singles right? But there is no way to run one with the twins!
