Carb Leak
« on: May 06, 2011, 03:27:44 pm »
I have a 17hp carb...the one with the plastic bowl. I cannot get it to stop leaking..Not much enough to make a dime sized spot on the concrete floor over night. This is with the fuel shut off. I really dont have time to get a new bowl for it since we race tomorrow.......

Is the wire bail that holds the bowl on tight, or does it slide over the bowl easily? If it slides on quite easily, replace the bail.

Sounds like a possible light crack in plastic bowl generally a reszult of screw drivers or pointed objects being used to pop the retaining rod off bottom of bowl.

You can't get just a bowl. Gotta buy a new carb. Or send me beer and I'll MAYBE send a bowl. Like Ed said, if the bale is bent, you need a new bale (see previous beer statement). You can't just "tweak" on this stuff. If it ain't right, replace it.

As they used to say in the Packard commercials... "ask the man who owns one". I've owned a few Indains.

Beer might be a little flat by the time it gets to you Bert lol. It appears that the bowl isn't sitting flush on the carb surface...hmmm

There are 2 "pins" (on the bowl) that line up with the gasket and with 2 holes in the bottom of the carb, see if they are lined up/installed properly.
