Do lawnmower engines have flywheel weights
« on: June 08, 2010, 07:10:54 pm »
Hey, this is my first post on the forum. I'm an avid quad rider so I'm sorry if I use the wrong terminology for some mower parts. I was jst wondering, do lawn mower engines have flywheel weights? Quads and dirtbikes have them, they make the engine rev faster. I'm building a road racing mower and want some more revving power out of my motor. I don't even have one yet so don't ask me what kind. The only reason I want a faster-revving motor is because it seems to give whatever your driving/riding more instant power for fast exceleration and maybe getting the rear loose around the corners  >:D

I'll be adding street tires, quad TT tires in the rear and more quad TT's up front.

WHAT??????

A flywheel is a weight, rotating mass.

Quads and dirt bikes have them???????????  They have flywheels.  Yes.  Dirt bikes have manual clutches.  quads have either manual clutches or CVT clutches.

What are you talking about?  Where are you going to "road race" a mower?

How old are you?

I'm thinking you are talking about the CVT transmissions on the Quads.  Those would be clutch weights, and no, mowers don't have them, unless you are a good clutch tuner!

Flywheel weights i have worked in a small engine shop for almost 10 years now. We work on everything from chain saws to riding mowers to quads and dirt bikes. And nothing that i have ever seen has flywheel weights. I think cyclonerracer is on the right direction with the CTV transmission. As far as revving faster you will have to do work to the motor. If you are really going to do this THE FIRST THING YOU NEED TO DO IS MAKE IT SAFE.
Go to the build section it will tell you every thing that you need to know and READ READ READ

Yes, it will for sure be a safe mower. Lowered, all-street tires, new disk brakes, beefed up steering and frame. Thanks for the help.

Flywheel weights are added to flywheels to be able to lug the engines without stalling. it is common practice for woods riding for tractorability not reving.

Then you need to buy a $350 billet flywheel.
