Family in Mower Racing
« on: May 12, 2010, 12:08:42 pm »
Ok, Aaron is letting me write a story this month about the Family side of Mower racing! He told me to start a thread to get people to Chime in! Ok so here goes how do you get your family involved in racing. Are they in the pits cheering you on? Racing themselves? Crew Chiefing for you? Or something totally different?

Thanks,
Jenny

Two of my sons have mowers and race. My wife usually goes along (if she's not in one of her crabby moods!), but she doesn't like to watch us racing because she says it scares her. But she likes socializing with the other women in the pits and we usually stop somewhere to eat on the way home. She also likes going on the longer trips, where we stay in a motel, (not the ones we camp out on,) because that's like a vacation for her. I tried to talk her into getting a second job, so I could go mower racing all year long, but I guess you know how that went! :woo:

Probably about the same way it went, When  I looked my dad in the eye and said I got a full ride to college  so part of  My college fund goes to build me a bad A** mower right?

Lol

Me and my son both race. Him being 15, and me being the grumpy old dad, racing and working on them is about the only time we get along!
Bert stole my cookies!!
I think he used them to bribe Ed into something naughty?

My wife seems to take no interest in mower racing other than to remind me how much money I spend on it.  My 2 year old son on the other hand insists on being right there with me whenever I am out in the garage working on the mower.  All I have to do is open the garage door, and he hears it like he has radar and comes running from the other end of the house.  He pretty much knows what most of the tools are now, and he always needs to have one in his hand when we are working on the mower.  He was out in the garage for most of my motor build for this season, and was right up on the work bench when i set the valve lash.  A few days later i saw him "working" on one of his cars with a toy screwdriver through the end of a toy box wrench like he was setting lash.  All in all mower racing provide me with an excellent oppertunity to begin teaching him about tools, tractors, and all the good stuff in the garage.  He talks to the kids at day care about working on the mower in the garage, so it is obviously making an impact on him.

He did this at day care a few weeks ago all by himself.  Guess he is learning!!!!

Sorry I didn't see this post earlier! Nope I didn't he actually laughed, and admitted that if I wasn't getting out of racing for the 4 year of college he would let me build a new mower! So we settled on making the firebird even cooler.

lol...Reading through this thread I had to chuckle at Old Goat....My wife enjoys going to our races, (daughter and I) but is a NERVOUS wreck the entire time. She tried to put the brakes on my daughter wanting her machine, and to compete but her and I kinda did our thing, built her a mower and now shes a great 'lil racer...lol

My wife, Ed King, loves racing. He has now driven a REAL race motor a few times this spring and I think he/she wants a V-twin all his/her own.

Ed's son from his first marraige, Running on Empty, won't speak to me as he considers me the other man.

Bert
Gary Busey and Rick James both used to live in my shop. Redline stole them.
