Justin's C/P Build 2010
« on: March 13, 2010, 07:25:11 pm »
I build my first true US and AMRA build. It's a Craftsman 14.5 Briggs Ohv, running through a 700 to a live axle, it will have a 10" rear brake disk, and EC front brakes power by MCP cylinders. This just some of the work we have done but it is all coming together slowly and we are learning a lot and still have a lot to do! But tell me what y'all think and what I might need to do different or change on the chassis. We are planning on just working with chassis and learning the handling side of the chassis before we build a high horsepower motor for next year!!!!! Thanks Justin

Looks sweet Justin. Are you gonna have enough clearance for your engine pulley  with the tie rod on the backside like you have it?

Thanks!!  Yes we made this axle for another chassis first and decided to use on the one so the engine pulley and tie rod will miss each other with about 2 inch to spear. But one other thing that help us is our transmission is mounted a little high in the frame so I can mow the engine pulley up a little bit.

Nice looking mower! I'm thinking about building one like this if a twin will fit under the hood. I bought one last week just like this with the 14.5 briggs for an extra engine for my Mod-x. I know some of these came with twins so hopefully it will fit. What color do you plan to paint it?

A twin will fit under the hood but there is not much more left afterward.. We have one that we are plan on put under the hood of one the these same mowers for next year(it's gonna be the wife's chassis and motor maybe if she can handle the power :D).... We are going to leave it the dark green because it the color of the enclosed trailer we are wanting to get and it the trucks we are looking at getting in the coming months.

Lol she might be scared of the v twin power. I'd started to build a snapper but the engine will not fit and I have the craftsman so I might as well build it. They have a really nice shape about them.

We'll see on that with her, and the chassis and bodies look great and I don't want to really use anything else personally and I have a Snapper too and a twin will fit but it wouldn't be legal for anything but Outlaw class and that's where I am headed with it one of these days.....

Mine is a front engine snapper. They came with twins but they are backwards. That was the only way I could get the twin to fit but I dont wanna run it like that.

Ah I see I thought it was a rear engine chassis... Now on the engine being backwards from what I have learned and have seen with the things if the motor is backward it would help with handling with the power transfer in the chassis setup for some more traction.

The main reason I don't want it backwards is it would be a pain to work on at the track. Looks like it has most of the weight on setting directly on the front axle also.

I understand now and see the problem of it being backwards at the track. And I agree too.
