yes you can, but that would be a very bad Idea as "tranny fluid" is hydraulic fluid, not gear oil. The primary purpose of tranny fluid is to transmit force, not lubricate.
A transaxle needs gear oil.

I usually drill a hole and tap it for 1/8" pipe thread in the flat part on front of the lower case, about an inch below the seam where the top and bottom case come together. Then as you race it and the oil leaks down, you can take out the plug and fill it back up, til it runs out the hole, or you could make some sort of dipstick to stick in the hole and see how much oil is in it.
